Manages and directs the implementation of corporate marketing plans in assigned territory through supervision and assistance of District Sales Managers and other sales staff and agents. Carries out responsibilities in planning, organizing, scheduling, budgeting, public relations, training and development, coordination of marketing efforts, and recruiting of sales management personnel and agency force. Due to the duties and responsibilities of this position, consumer reports may be ordered on final candidates. Requires the ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Essential Duties

  • Recruits, selects, trains and supervises the marketing efforts of District Sales Managers, and provides assistance to them in developing sales and in managing sales agents.
  • Assists in recruiting and approves the hiring of sales agents by District Sales Managers, and approves any agent terminations.
  • Plans, coordinates and conducts sales and motivational meetings for District Sales Managers and agents within the region.
  • Communicates marketing management's sales goals for assigned territory and develops and implements programs and controls designed to attain goals.
  • Communicates and collaborates with Home Office in such matters as agent training, reviews of agency and region performance, competitive positions, new markets or techniques, problem areas and other issues.
  • Directs the work activities of Sales Secretary and administers procedures relating to budgets, expenses, call reports, weekly action guides, and other measures of staff performance.
  • Reviews agent performance and makes recommendations regarding compensation and sales incentives to Director of Sales.
  • Monitors agency staff activities to ensure conformance with company underwriting policies, claims services, contract compliance, and advertising participation.
  • Assists in developing region budget and sales goals, conducts claims reviews with regard to profitability, promotes sales campaigns, oversees maintenance of recordkeeping functions, and performs other administrative tasks related to sales.
  • Performs other duties requested by the Director of Sales - Region I/Region II.

Skills

  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills to train, motivate and direct staff, assist with sales, and conduct sales meetings.
  • Ability to understand and analyze reports and figures.
  • Skills in budgeting, planning, organizing and decision making.
  • Ability to maintain schedules and work well with others

Training

  • General educational background at the college level, including English, math and business courses.
  • Continuing education through in-house and industry seminars in new products, competitive practices, motivation, etc.
  • Successful completion of state licensing exams and work toward CLU or other professional designation.

Experience

  • Thorough knowledge of company products and policies.
  • Several years insurance sales experience, including one-two years as a sales agent and three-five years as a sales manager.

Responsibilities/Principal Accountabilities

  • Works under general supervision, and is accountable for recruiting, selection, training, supervision and motivation of a sales management and agency staff to attain corporate marketing and profitability goals for assigned territory.
  • Responsible for administration of the region's expense budget and for implementation and coordination of plans and programs as established by upper management.
